Screen Printing FAQ

What is screen printing? Is it durable?

To keep it simple, screenprinting is a process where inks are applied to a surface through a mesh screen. The process allows for exact color placement, which creates the image or logo you want printed. Screen printing is more durable than iron-ons and other methods of applying graphics. Your screen printed graphics should last just as long as the clothing!

Can you use screen printing on any type of clothing?

Most commonly, we use screen printing for custom T-shirts. You can also use screen printing for branded hoodies, jerseys, mesh practice pinnies, performance and athletic apparel, sweatpants, joggers, shorts, tote bags and more. Most say that 100% cotton is the best match for the printing process, but we've had success with 80/20 blends and even 50/50 blends (polyester and nylon are often mixed with cotton for these blends). There's certain fabric types we avoid for this process, and we can let you know when that's the case.

What is the turnaround time for screen printing?

Turnaround time can depend on apparel availability, order size, and time of the year. For example, our schedule can pick up around school sports. If you need a quick turnaround, please call us ASAP. We will do our best to accommodate your situation.

Can we provide our own artwork?

Yes! We recommend that you send us a high-resolution vector file for screen printing, such as PDF, EPS, SVG, or AI. Files should be 300 DPI and actual print size (digital size should equal physical printing dimensions). We may be able to use a PNG, but it depends on the quality of the file. If working with a professional graphic designer, they will be able to provide you with a vector file.

R&S Sports does not print copyright or trademarked designs. Customers are responsible for obtaining legal rights and permissions to use the artwork they submit. This includes any school logos or team branding, licensed characters, and other designs.

What clothing sizes can you get?

Available apparel sizing can vary based on brand and apparel type. We have both youth and adult sizes, and we’ve seen adult sizes go up to 6XL at our distributors. We can go over sizing when sitting down to construct your quote or custom team shop.

What if we have an issue with a product?

If you have issues with any screen printed products purchased from R&S Sports, please reach out immediately. We have the highest standards and will work on a solution with you.

Is there a minimum order?

There is a minimum order for screen printed jobs. Please inquire when you reach out to us. There are no minimums for our heat press offerings.

What's the difference between screen printing and heat press?

Heat press applies a printed design using heat and pressure to adhere it a fabric's surface. It's quicker and great for one-off or small-batch needs, but because the design sits on top of the fabric rather than soaking into it, it can be more prone to cracking, peeling, or fading over time, especially with frequent washing.

If you need gear that'll last season after season, screen printing is the way to go. If you need something quick for this weekend's game, heat press has you covered.
